Container with sodium dichlorisocyanurate on fire

On January 14th, 2016 at 3.30 pm a fire broke out at Localfrio, an industrial company in Guarujà – São Paulo. A container with sodium dichlorisocyanurate caught fire in the courtyard of the company. An exothermic chemical reaction occurred, due to the contact of rain water with the interior of the container.
Thereby the fire spread to other containers nearby and large amounts of toxic fumes were released into the atmosphere. The toxic cloud reached Guarujà proximities as well as the cities of Santos, São Vicente and Cubatão. The São Paulo State Fire Department coordinated all actions to extinguish the fire and fought the fire together with trained employees of Localfrio and neighboring businesses.
After more than 2 days, on January 16th at 6.30 pm the fire has been extinguished. To prevent re-ignition a team of fire fighters remained in the active area until January 27th.
