40 apprentices and dual students start into their first training year at the Iveco Group site in Ulm, Germany

On September 1, a total of 40 young people started their careers at the Iveco Group site in Ulm with its three companies Iveco Magirus AG, Magirus GmbH and EVCO GmbH. 33 new trainees are aiming to complete a three- or three-and-a-half-year apprenticeship as industrial clerks, warehouse logistics specialists, construction mechanics, vehicle painters, industrial mechanics, electronics technicians for operating technology or automotive mechatronics technicians for systems and high-voltage technology. Further six students in the four-and-a-half-year dual study program based on the Ulm Model in automotive engineering and one B.A. student in business administration complete the newcomers.

On September 1, the new trainees were welcomed by Sascha Breitscheidel, Head of Human Resources for the DACH region at Iveco Group, the HR managers of the three companies at the Ulm site, as well as the works council, the training supervisors for the respective professions, the training responsibles and youth representatives. Other stations on the first day of work were the introduction, initial briefings and a group photo.

Before they start their training, they first have to arrive, get oriented, to and make contacts. To this end, the trainees have a special welcome and introduction week where they will receive relevant information about the training, work processes and working life in the modern commercial vehicle operations at the Ulm site. In addition to team-building measures and essentials in value management, there are also various presentations with practice-oriented group work with the coordinator for training and further education, the youth representative and the training foremen, which not only provide detailed insights into the companies of the Iveco Group, but also give tips and tricks for harmonious cooperation.

"A consistent qualified training policy is of great importance for securing skilled workers at the site," says Thomas Hilse, President of the Fire Fighting Business Unit at the Iveco Group. "We are aware of our social responsibility and will continue to offer 40 new young colleagues a more than solid foundation for a professional career in the commercial vehicle sector in 2023."

Sascha Breitscheidel adds: "With a total of 138 trainees and dual students in all training years, our trainee ratio is over eight percent, which is well above the general trend. Against the backdrop of a high number of vacant apprenticeship positions, particularly in the commercial vehicles sector, we are particularly proud that we were once again able to fill all positions with talented apprentices and students this year, while also maintaining a correspondingly high proportion of women at just under 25 percent."

"I am particularly pleased that we have kept the number of apprenticeships at the Iveco Group site in Ulm consistently high over the last few years. Iveco Magirus AG, Magirus GmbH and EVCO GmbH are regarded as reliable and attractive employers in the region. The trainees benefit from the brand diversity at the site and get to know all three companies during their training," says Wilfried Schmid, Chairman of the Works Council of the joint works council of Iveco Magirus AG, Magirus GmbH and EVCO GmbH.

Counteracting the shortage of skilled workers

Iveco Magirus AG, Magirus GmbH and EVCO GmbH are also looking for motivated and committed trainees for the year 2024. The application process for the 2024 training year has already started. For high school graduates, there is also once again the option of dual studies according to the Ulm model.
