A new chapter begins: On 1 September 2025, a total of 37 young people started their training or dual studies at the Magirus GmbH and the Iveco Group. Of these, 34 junior employees are starting at the joint training site in the Donautal area of Ulm, while three more apprentices are starting at the subsidiary Magirus Lohr in Austria. They are diving into the world of firefighting and commercial vehicles with great curiosity, motivation, and excitement, ready to become the skilled professionals of tomorrow.
Team spirit as a cornerstone
The program kicked off in Ulm with an introductory week. In addition to providing initial technical insights into the training and study content, the focus was on orientation, community and values. Through lectures, group work and team-building activities, the young professionals not only gained practical knowledge, but also an impression of what it is like to work in a modern industrial company. At Magirus Lohr, the first day of work began with a welcome and an information day for parents to provide all the important information about the training program.
Wide variety of career paths and voluntary work
Twenty-nine trainees have opted for a three- or three-and-a-half-year training program in professions such as industrial clerk, warehouse logistics specialist, construction mechanic, vehicle painter, industrial mechanic, electronics technician for industrial engineering, or automotive mechatronics technician for systems and high-voltage technology. The cohort is complemented by three students on the dual Ulm model in the field of automotive engineering and two students studying business administration. This creates a diverse training environment that combines commercial, technical and academic career paths.
The three trainees in Premstätten near Graz, Austria, opted for training in the field of vehicle construction technology. In addition to their apprenticeships, they have another thing in common: their voluntary work with the volunteer fire brigade.
Apprenticeships beyond company boundaries
Although Magirus now operates independently, vocational training in Ulm remains a shared component. Thanks to this close cooperation, young professionals benefit from a broad spectrum of specialist knowledge and development opportunities.
Investing in the future
With a total of 141 trainees across all apprenticeship years, both Ulm-based companies are securing their long-term future viability. The start of training in 2025 underlines the high priority that Magirus and Iveco continue to place on promoting young talent. Today's career starters are set to become tomorrow's skilled workers, thereby securing not only the competitiveness of the companies but also the industrial strength of the region.
The 2025 training cohort shows how the future is being shaped: with committed young people starting their careers in an industry that stands for mobility, technology and teamwork like no other.
