This week, representatives of Chilean fire departments will receive 23 new fire engines at the Magirus Experience Center in Ulm. These vehicles are structurally identical to the "C4 Semi Urbano" Chilean category, which is a medium-sized TLF 4000 tank pumper. The fire engines, commissioned by the Junta de Bomberos de Chile, were ordered for various fire departments in the Bío Bío region.
Government authorities were convinced by this vehicle type due to its great versatility. Whether they are used on motorways, in rural or in urban areas, the agile Magirus fire engines are designed to handle a broad range of operational areas. Above all, they ensure the all-important replenishment of extinguishing water. In the future, they will further strengthen the operational efficiency of fire departments and emergency services.
New acquisition of the tank pumpers is of great significance for the region. In the past, Chile has had to fight forest fires of an immense scale. At the beginning of this year, fire destroyed an area of over 370,000 hectares – an area four times the size of Berlin. The Bío Bío region in central Chile was particularly hard hit. Bío Bío has more than 1.9 million inhabitants and covers an area of 36,062 km². Fire departments, rescue workers and residents were kept in suspense for weeks by constantly new flare-ups, abetted by the extreme drought and temperatures of over 35 degrees.
Each of the “C4 Semi Urbano” fire engines is built on Iveco Eurocargo chassis with 16 tonnes gross vehicle weight and a 220 kW (299 hp) motor. The all-steel crew cabin holds a fire brigade team of 1+8. The large, external water tank has a capacity of 4,000 l water. All vehicles are available with a Magirus centrifugal pump that has a capacity of 3,000 l/min at 10 bar.
The official vehicle acceptance will take place this week at the Magirus Excellence Center in Ulm with representatives from the Junta de Bomberos de Chile and the Bío Bío region. Subsequently, the vehicles will be shipped to Chile by sea.
