The first M32L-AS n.B. series production vehicle left the Magirus Excellence Center in Ulm last week. Currently the fourth generation of Magirus low-level design turntable ladders, it is particularly suited for use in cities with narrow streets. On the way to Munich, we stopped for a Driver Safety Training seminar with the Magirus Fire Fighter Academy. The main topics of the training concept, which has been specially developed for low-level vehicles, are the dynamics of vehicle movement, the additional rear-axle steering (HZL), and dealing with difficult situations and stress. In the seminar, experts taught instructors from the Munich and Augsburg professional fire departments the technical driving-related features of the new turntable ladders. The modules they completed have been designed to closely integrate theory and practice. In addition, the seminar includes a tactical component highlighting mission risks and intended to help participants drive proactively.
New low-level turntable ladders for professional fire departments
The special chassis is based on an Iveco Eurocargo 160E32 (Euro 6) whose cab has been lowered and moved forward. The truck is equipped with a fully automatic Allison 3000 PR transmission with retarder. Its engine output is 235 kW (320 hp). In 2016, Magirus will deliver a total of 15 new turntable ladders from the same series to Munich. The Augsburg FD will receive two new vehicles. Recently, both fire departments completed a Turntable Ladder Tactics Seminar with the M32L-AS n.B. at the Fire Fighter Academy. Because a demonstration vehicle was used, the Munich Fire Department could then practice the driving characteristics with their own vehicle.
