A breath of fresh air at Magirus: over the past few days, a total of 30 new apprentices and dual students have started their training with the company. Spread across the sites in Ulm, Premstätten, Radfeld and Chambéry, the new colleagues are now training in a wide variety of occupations – from electronics to vehicle construction and business administration. In total, Magirus is currently training 106 young people.
Team-building in the great outdoors: induction week in Bad Urach
Just how special an apprenticeship at Magirus can be became clear to the trainees in Ulm on their very first day: rather than starting out at a desk or workbench, they headed straight for the great outdoors. Four days, one goal: getting to know each other and growing together as a team. From 1 to 4 September, under the guidance of team supervisors Leonie Berger and Christian Ort, the new colleagues took part in an orientation hike with map and compass, an adventurous tour of the Falkensteiner cave, building their own soapbox carts followed by a race, and a joint canoe trip. A particular highlight of the induction week at the house in Bad Urach was an evening fireside chat with the management team.
Diversity and hands-on experience at every site
Just how diverse training at Magirus is becomes clear right across the company. At the Ulm headquarters alone, the 19 new apprentices and dual students represent seven different apprenticeship trades, ranging from electronics and vehicle construction to a dual degree in business administration. Across all years of training, the site is now home to 79 young people in training. Things are especially hands-on in Premstätten, where five new apprentices are learning their trade as vehicle construction and automotive technicians. This brings the site's total to 16 apprentices, who can also look forward to a two-week exchange with commercial vehicle manufacturer MAN.
Tim and Brian, the newly started vehicle construction technology apprentices in Radfeld, are also getting broad-based training from day one: over the next three and a half years, they will work through every area of the business, from parts manufacturing to welding and paintwork right through to the warehouse, supported along the way by colleagues spanning three generations of experience. The Radfeld team now numbers seven apprentices. Magirus is also growing in France: this month, four new trainees are starting out in logistics, finance, marketing and technical after-sales in Chambéry.
